Annual Veterans' Honor Run FAQ
Participation & Logistics
Do I have to run for the full 22 hours?
No. This is a “choose your own challenge” event. Whether you want to hit a specific distance or just walk a few miles to show support, you are welcome. You can start, stop, and take breaks whenever you need. Can I start late?
Yes. However, do not just jump on the course. Even if you arrive late, please check in at the Registration Tent (next to the Aid Station) first to ensure your chip is activated and you are accounted for.Is this a timed event?
Yes. In-person participants will be chip-timed. We’ve upgraded our infrastructure for 2026 to ensure a smooth, accurate experience.Should I track my own mileage?
For in-person runners, we suggest keeping your own GPS watch running for your personal records. For virtual runners, you must track your own mileage and submit it by November 10th to receive official credit. Is there a discount for Veterans and Active Duty Military?
Yes. We are deeply honored to have veterans run with us. Veterans and active-duty military can register completely free of charge. Please use the VETERAN coupon code on UltraSignup when signing up.Do I need a headlamp?
Yes. This is a mandatory safety requirement for anyone on the course between dusk Saturday and dawn Sunday. The Heritage Park loop has some ambient light, but sections will be dark. You must provide your own headlamp or running light, and we highly recommend bringing extra batteries or a backup light source. What happens if the overnight weather gets bad?
This event is held in Michigan in November—it will get cold, dark, and potentially wet. The run happens rain, sleet, or snow. There are no weather cancellations. We recommend multiple changes of warm clothes, extra socks, and wind/rain layers.
Base Camp & Support
Can I set up a tent or pop-up canopy?
Absolutely. We encourage a “Base Camp” atmosphere. Tents are allowed in designated grass areas near the parking lot. Please refer to the Course Map for layout. What is the Aid Station like?
We take immense pride in our aid station. Expect more than just “fuel”—we provide a high-tier spread of hot food, snacks, and plenty of coffee to keep you moving through the night. Is this a cupless event?
We are actively driving toward becoming a cupless event to reduce waste and stay sustainable. We won’t be “militant” about it this year, but we strongly encourage you to bring your own reusable bottle or hydration pack. Are pacers allowed?
Yes! To keep spirits high and runners safe, pacers are welcome to join you free of charge starting at 8:00 PM (after dark) or once you’ve hit the halfway mark. Can I have my own support crew?
Independent support (that does not utilize our aid station facilities) is allowed and free. If your crew plans to use the aid station or base camp facilities, we ask that they consider a “Crew Pass” donation in our store. Is alcohol allowed?
No. Heritage Park is a family-friendly, alcohol-free environment.- Where do I park, and is there a fee?
Parking is completely free and located directly adjacent to the start/finish line area at Heritage Park (near the North Pavilions). You will have easy, vehicle-side access to your car throughout the entire 22 hours if you need to store extra gear or take a break.
Virtual & Tracking
When do I have to finish my virtual miles?
Virtual runners can complete their miles on their own schedule, but results must be submitted by November 10th.Where is the leaderboard?
We will have a live-feed leaderboard active during the event. The specific link will be emailed to all participants and posted on our social media the week of the run.
Fundraising & Volunteering
How does the fundraising work, and where does the money go?
This year, we are utilizing GiveButter to reach our $22,000 goal. 80% of event proceeds go directly to our 2026 beneficiaries: Guitars for Vets, Therapeutic Riding Inc., and Leashes of Valor. You can create a personal or team fundraising page to share your mission. Are there fundraising prizes?
Yes! To fuel the friendly competition, our Top 3 Individual Fundraisers on GiveButter will receive $100, $50, and $25 gift cards respectively, along with special recognition at Sunday morning’s closing ceremony. How can I sign up to volunteer?
It takes a massive team to keep runners safe and fueled for 22 hours. We have shifts available for packet pickup, aid station support, and course cheering. You can view open time slots and sign up directly on our iVolunteer Page (or insert direct link).
